Q: How did you start your career with Lucas Professional Search Group?

I started as an Internship student the beginning of 2014. Soon after my internship ended, the Regional Manager was impressed with my work and offered me the Recruitment Specialist position in the London Branch.

Q: What made you decide to go into human resources?

I worked as a Retail Manager for 7 exciting years. My experience from that role helped me choose Human Resources as my career path. I was in charge of sales generation, recruitment, training & development and visual merchandising. Recruitment was my favorite part of the position. Meeting people and finding qualified candidates to assist companies in their recruiting efforts is a great feeling of accomplishment.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

Shopping!!! Always have time for shopping.

Q: What is the one thing you like the most?

Travelling, learning new languages, new cultures, exploring the world. I speak & write four languages and have travelled to more than 8 countries ….still more to go.

Q: If you could describe your life motto what would be it?

You should never regret anything in life. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience. I believe in this. We all make mistakes and sometimes we are too hard on ourselves but the best way to learn is from our mistakes. We should never stop trying.

Q: What is the best piece of advice that you have been given from a mentor?

Action speaks louder than words- what one does is more important than what one says. The only way you can prove yourself is by your actions.

Q: How long have you been with Lucas Professional Search Group?

Q: What is your favorite quote?
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou
I love this quote, and in my field I live by this quote every day. As a Recruitment Partner I meet with many candidates, I try to ensure that every candidates that I interview (good or bad) has a positive outlook and good experience when leaving my office.

Q: What made you decide to go into human resources?
A:When I started my post-secondary studies my college offered general business the first year, and after that you had the option of specializing in any of the business areas. After completing my first year, I was convinced that Human Resources was the field for me and continued along that path all through college, and then also University. I knew Human Resources was the right path for me because it is the heart of the organization. Human Resources is centred around employees, and about the relationship employees have with their organizations, it is a very delicate relationship that needs to be cared for, understood, and that is the Human Resources main function.

Q: Do you have a secret talent?
A: I would say singing, but everyone around me would beg to differ.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Ice cream!!! I always have room for ice cream.

Q: What was your first job?
A: My very first job was working for my dad at our family business, this was my first taste of administration and customer service. I remember how excited it was to listen to my dad, and the level of customer service he demonstrated to his clients. I shadowed him all day, learning, listening, and even meeting his clients that would come into the shop. And at the end of each day he paid me, I remember the first time he handed me my pay check and how very accomplished I felt.

Q: What is the best piece of advice a mentor has given you?
A: When I first started in recruitment, and was doing my first executive interview I left very nervous and had minor anxiety. Because, even though I interviewed many candidates in the past, I never interviewed a “C” level Executive. My colleague told me this “remember when you meet a candidate they don’t know if this is your first interview, or if you’re a seasoned interviewer”. And she was right, my candidate thought I had been doing these high level interviews for years. It is all about how you present yourself.

Meet The Recruitment Team – Jennifer Charron

Today, we’re starting a new segment on the Lucas Professional Search Group blog called “Meet the Recruitment Team”. It’s a fun new way for you to get to know our recruiters on a more personal level than you would if you were to visit the recruitment team section of our website.

We decided to start our new segment by interviewing recruiter Jennifer Charron.

Jennifer CharronQ: How long have you been with Lucas Professional Search Group?
A: 4 wonderful years!

Q: You are involved in several networking groups. Which do you find to be the most beneficial?
A: I think networking is very critical, especially as a young business professional. I am currently the Chair of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce-After Business Committee. We host networking events 6 – 7 times throughout the year at unique and exciting venues within the community. I get the opportunity to meet with local business professionals to learn more about them and their business. It is great to be able to network with local professionals who are so proud to live and work in this community. Over my last four years volunteering with the Chamber of Commerce I have made great business contacts and friendships.

Q: What made you decide to go into human resources?
A: I wanted to find a position where I was able to help people. I am lucky that I get the opportunity to meet with hiring managers from various industries and match their needs with great candidates. Making a career move is a life changing decision. Being able to help a candidate find their dream job and vice versa, helping a client find their ideal candidate is extremely rewarding. I have been privileged to be able to see candidates that I have placed still with the organizations, doing well and even progressing within the company.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes, a yorkie named Oscar. He definitely rules our house!

Q: If you could describe your life motto what would be it?
A: Everything happens for a reason. I truly believe that. I don’t know anyone who has not dealt with difficult situations, fear, happiness, success, etc. I honestly believe it helps shape who you are and what you want to be. I admit there are a lot of times when I don’t seem to understand at the moment why things happen but I believe that they do happen for a reason – for some reason or another.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Candy!! I definitely have a sweet tooth. I am the type of person who would skip a meal just to have desert. If I had to narrow it down to one thing, I would say sour keys.

Q: What is the best piece of advice that you have been given from a mentor?
A: Strive for excellence, not perfection.
